My daughter Gigi and I usually see our musicals on opening night but this time we took in a Matinee on Kids Club day. Valet was sold out and that never happens to us! No worries, or so we thought, as I have a parking pass as a Board member….but parking was full. I’d never seen anything like it! but then again, we usually come early for dinner and hadn’t anticipated the crowd for such a fun holiday show on top of Kids Club activities.  In case you don’t know, Dallas Summer Musicals has several Kids Club events during its season. Kids Club  is a free membership program for kids created to develop tomorrow’s musical theatre audience.  Through exciting activities, special events, backstage tours and informational exchanges about shows included in the Kids Club membership, children gain an interest, hands-on knowledge and appreciation of the performing arts. In addition, Seats for Kids  provides a meaningful theatre arts experience to low-income, at-risk and special needs children.  Every year nearly 2,000 children in the Dallas area experience live musical theatre, many for the first time, through this program.  Non-profit youth agencies and Title 1 schools are eligible to participate.  DSM provides children, their teachers and chaperones with free tickets, as well as professionally drafted study guides to support attending the performance.  Teachers report that this experience is unforgettable and life-changing for many children.  image003

You have six more days to catch Elf the Musical  at the Music Hall at Fair Park. With the kids out of school for winter break, why not dress up festive and take your kids to dinner at M Dining at the Music hall before the show?  A buffet with salads, appetizers, main course selections and scrumptious dessert bar features a menu that changes with every show to reflect the theme of the current running production is a fun part of the Dallas Summer Musicals experience. For something more casual you can get fresh made sandwiches upstairs.
