Its that time of year, again! Most of you probably have got your kids summers scheduled by this time, but for those of you that fly by the seat of your pants and KNOW the kids are going to drive you crazy after the first week of sleeping in and arguing over x box with siblings, here are a few ideas for you:

Prestonwood Polo Summer Camp

For the Equestrian, though previous riding experience is certainly not required, try something new and exciting like Polo! Prestonwood Polo Club has one of the top youth polo programs in the country and has won 4 consecutive Central USA Interscholastic Championships, in 2015 were National Runners-up and won the National championship title this year.  Prestonwood is also home the TCU Intercollegiate Polo Team. Kids 8-18 are introduced to the sport of polo with the goal of joining the interscholastic and intercollegiate teams to compete in USPA tournaments throughout Texas and the USA.  This three day summer camp is a perfect introduction to the sport of polo. In only three days kids will learn the basics  and give an exhibition polo match performance on Fourth of July, culminating in a fireworks watch party.

 

Ninja Camp (martial Arts) with Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense:

CCChamberlain Studios’ team of expert instructors will lead students through a fun packed martial arts program that will safely introduce new students to the martial arts and also polish and expand the skills of those with previous experience. The camp features the acclaimed 3-Steps to a Great Kid™ character development program. Activities cover all the important areas of training, including: · Basic Karate skills, rolls and falls · Self defense techniques, sparring and forms, · Wrestling/ground work and Brazilian jiu-jitsu · History of the Martial Arts, personal safety tips · Chanbara padded weapons drills & competitions · Board breaking, karate weapons (wooden sword & staff) · Swimming safety, (Bachman -Love Field- camps only) · When it is appropriate to use these new skills, and much, much more!  Children are divided in each activity by age and ability. 4-6 and 7 & up. Dallas Summer Musicals Academy offers a June Camp for the younger ones, 7-12 and a Teen three week Intensive in July. The DSM Academy of Performing Arts was founded in 1999 and operates as an affiliate of Dallas Summer Musicals in eight locations in the Dallas area. Dallas Summer Musicals is a company that produces and presents Broadway, off-Broadway, West End and touring theatrical productions. The DSM Academy is comprised of 75% teens and 25% adults ranging in age from 7 to adult. The Academy is proud of its diverse and ethnic student population. The DSM Academy has granted over 250 need-based scholarships. The Academy helps to prepare the amateur and the professional for involvement in the performing arts. The purpose of this page is to connect people who have a common interest in the performing arts of any type. Younger actors will perform HONK, the Musical  and the Teens will spend the first two weeks rehearsing Grease in the historic Music Hall, then move to Dallas Children’s Theater for final week, where 2 shows will be performed.

 

 

‘Annie’ the movie Camp at Park Cities School of Music

For the younger  actors, Annie the Movie Camp is a fun one. During this week long camp, young singers (8-11 boys & girls), actors and dancers can gather together and have the best time growing as performers. They will be cast as characters to prepare scenes and songs from the 2014 “Annie” movie. Parents will observe a final performance on last day of camp.  $450 Register here and see more camps.

Lakewood Conservatory of Fine Arts offers Art Camps that build the child’s own imagination.

Little Impressionists Camp: Campers are busy making puppets, arts and crafts. The camp provides introduction to the elements of arts such as theory of color, shapes, and lines. Kids are familiarized with the styles of Impressionism creating art using fingers.

Price: (3hrs, 9am-12pm / 1pm-12pm) $235, price includes supply fee.

Age: 3 – 5 years old

June 6-10, July 5-9, August 15-19

Rembrandts Camp:

Campers are taught the theory of color, shapes, and lines. They do pencil drawing illustrations. Introduction to the parts of the face (eye, lip, nose, cheeks, etc.) to crate self-portrait using light and shadow techniques.

Price: (4hrs, 9am-1pm / 1pm-5pm) $235, price includes supply fee.

Age: 6 – 8 years old

June 13-17, July 11-15

LCFA’s Engineers:

Campers will design and build their own architectural creation. The teacher directs and helps without changing children’s design. At the end of the Camp students will have a display of a unique model building. The buildings are done with paper but the teacher introduces kids with various building materials and explains the basic rules of building.

Age: 6 – 10 years old

June 20-24, July 18-22

Picassos Camp:

Campers are taught perspective techniques, 2D and 3D drawing and painting. Hand and eye coordination, understanding the field of depth by using light and shadow. Introduction to various mediums such as pencil, oil pastels, watercolor, acrylic, chalk.

Price: (4hrs, 9am-1pm / 1pm-5pm) $285, price includes supply fee.

Age: 9 – 12 years old

July 25-29

MAD Combo Camp: Campers will be exposed to various music, dance, and art activities throughout the day. Camp provides not only hands on exercises but also theory and history of each art. Our camps are design to develop students imagination, creativity, social/team skills, and self-confidence.

Price: All Day: 9am-5pm $400; Half Day: 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm $250

Age: 3 – 6 years old

June 27-July 1, August 1-5, August 8-12
